Maggie Cheung plays a fictionalised version of herself in Olivier Assayas’s self-reflexive masterpiece. Simultaneously a satire of and love letter to French cinema, it follows Cheung as she is invited to star in a remake of a classic silent film, only to find petty intrigues on set and a disastrous production.
It was screened as part of the official selection at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival; I’m beyond excited to see it and you should be too!
